About the Digital Collections

Special Collections and Archives (SCA) Digital Collections supports the mission of the Denver Public Library by enhancing access to primary resources and ensuring the preservation of fragile and deteriorating media.

This platform provides access to thousands of photographs, documents, maps, and other items that reflect the range of materials that are collected, managed, and preserved by SCA. Materials found in the Digital Collections are predominantly digitized from primary sources found in SCA’s collections, with some born-digital additions. This is a living database that has content added to it regularly.

Content selection for the Digital Collections has primarily focused on the strengths and unique areas of the collection, and preserving fragile media. The Digital Collection Development Strategy is now SCA’s guiding document for curating the Digital Collections and ensuring they are reflective of our diverse community.
