Summary
The collection contains military records and correspondence of Captain Silas Soule dating from 1860 to 1865. Records from the First Colorado Cavalry, Company D, primarily document clothing and equipment inventories, but also include important materials related to the Sand Creek Massacre, including seven affidavits from soldiers who served under Soule. Letters to his family and friends provide additional context about his experiences before and after the massacre.
