Kenneth Jessen photo collectionNotesPhotographer's note: "Residents wanted an exotic sound to their town. Delhi was named for New Delhi, India. The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe constructed a depot at Delhi. The town got its own post office in 1908, but it was closed and moved to nearby Bloom in 1913. However in 1919, Delhi regained its post office. Delhi included a public school and a section house for railroad workers. Delhi's population reached 80 during its peak years. When the railroad retired its depot in 1954, the town began to fade. The post office lasted until 1975, serving local ranchers. The abandoned Delhi general store marks the site along U.S. 350 at County Road 88.0 immediately south of the Las Animas-Otero county line."DonorGift; Kenneth Jessen; 2020.
