"For a few years Fort Lupton had a neighbor in Fort Lancaster, on the same side of the river, two or three miles above (south) the mouth of St. Vrain Creek. Further than this not much is known definitely about it. It must have been a small and unimportant outfit, as it left no traces of its site. That it ever existed has been doubted. It has been said that Lupton's first name was Lancaster, and that Fort Lancaster was Ft. Lupton under the trader's given name.
