The Road crosses the Big Thompson about a mile west of old St. Louis, and a station was established on the bluff lands north of the stream. Here, in September of that year, a townsite was laid out and platted in a wheat field on a farm owned by the late David Barnes. It was given the name of Loveland, in honor of W.A.H. Loveland, President of the railroad company. Many of the buildings of old St. Louis were moved to the new town, and before winter set in, Loveland occupied a commanding position on the map."
