A lamp got knocked over and started the Saloon burning. Patty Barrick the proprietor lost his life in the fire. There were no Electric lights until 1895 or 96. There was no town water system and they had about 100-leather buckets about 2 gal. and this was the only means they had of putting out a fire. Water had to be carried from creek. So it burned out the entire block of business houses set on this ??. Then in 1886 they bought the old hand fire Pumper which is now in old fire house. note size of Diamond Tunnel mine dump we know for sure this fire was Nov. 4, 1884. So Diamond Tunnel mine must have operated for several years before the date ??. I got many of these notes from James Garrett and other old timers who knew X Saloon where fire started.
