Call NumberX-17497CreatorBrumfield & GilbertDate1880-1890SummaryExterior view of the southeast side of the cabin built by Francis M. Snowden in 1874. Purported to be the first cabin built in Silverton, it is a one-room, one-story structure of hewn logs with chinking, and a double layered roof with dirt between the layers. Boards lead to the door, and on them, an old prospector sits in a chair with his cane. Under the double paned window to the left, another chair and a stool await guests. A picket fence, the wall of a cabin, and foothills fill the background.Physical Description1 copy photonegative ; 10 x 13 cm (4 x 5 in.); 1 photoprint ; 13 x 19 cm (5 x 7 1/2 in.)Born-Digital or AnalogAnalogSubjectSnowden, Francis M.--Homes and haunts--Colorado--Silverton--19th centurySilverton (Colo.)--19th centuryLog cabins--Colorado--Silverton--19th centuryGeographic AreaSilverton (Colo.)CollectionPhotographs - Western HistoryType of MaterialFilm negativesPhotographic printsBlack & white photographsNotesFormerly F13164.
