Smoke rises from Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (2-8-2) locomotives #497 and #498, a doubleheader freight train, on the Alamosa to Chama route, in Alamosa (Alamosa County), Colorado. A sign for the Narrow Gauge Motel is beside highway US 285. Shows patches of snow, and the photographer's shadow on the ground.
