The troupe reenacted the Battle of San Juan Hill during its performance in the Wild West Show. The First Regiment fought under the leadership of then-Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Roosevelt in the Spanish-American War in 1898. In battle in Cuba they were not able to use their horses, however, and fought on foot. Roosevelt went on to become president of the United States.
