The troupe reenacted the Battle of San Juan Hill during its performance in the Wild West Show. The First Regiment fought under the leadership of then-Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Roosevelt in the Spanish-American War in 1898. In battle in Cuba they were not able to use their horses, however, and fought on foot.
