Summary
Men, women and a dog sit or stand on Independence Rock in Natrona County, Wyoming. A man uses a hammer and chisel to inscribe letters in the granite. Inscriptions read: "S.R. '49, W.H[?] 1860" and "J.H. 1850." Shows the Sweetwater River, a wagon train on the Oregon Trail, and buildings at Sweetwater Station, a military post and pony express station. Covered wagons are in a circle near the station. Smoke is in the distance.
