Several pictures of "Buffalo Bill" are in the background inside the tent. Salsbury wears a long coat and holds a cigar in his left hand. His right leg is crossed over his left. Salsbury was an actor and managed the Salsbury Troubadours before taking over as manager of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in 1883. Born in Freeport, Illinois in 1846, Salsbury first met William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody in New York in 1882. The pair joined forces the following year and Salsbury led Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show to enormous success in the United States and Europe.
