Call NumberX-2559CreatorWolle, Muriel Sibell, 1898-1977Date1930-1940SummaryView of a dry-masonry wall built by Cornish craftsmen probably in the nineteenth century. The wall is built along a dirt road, and vegitation grows out ot the top and along the sides of the wall. Snow covers the top of the wall, which is built completely of stone and without mortar. The Cornish, who immigrated to Central City by the hundreds, were excellent hard-rock miners. When mining in Gilpin County became difficult, the mining knowledge of the Cornish, or "Cousin Jacks," once again made the industry profitable.Physical Description1 photonegative : black-and-white ; 10 x 13 cm (4 x 5 in.); 1 photoprint : black-and-white ; 11 x 7 cm (2 3/4 x 4 1/2 in.)Born-Digital or AnalogAnalogSubjectRoads, Earth--Colorado--Central CityMasonry--Colorado--Central CityStone walls--Colorado--Central CityGeographic AreaCentral City (Colo.)CollectionPhotographs - Western HistoryRelated MaterialImage File: ZZR710002559Type of MaterialFilm negativesBlack & white photographsPhotographic printsOriginal Material Found in CollectionWH906.
