The Arch is ornate and Romanesque in design. Corinthian colonnades extend from both sides of the arch. The names of explorers including Champlain, LaSalle, Poncedeleon, Cortez and Desoto are carved on the arch. A statue of Columbus mounted on a horse sits on top of the arch. Words reading "Ye Shall Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Make You Free" are carved under the statue. Other carvings read: "To the Pioneers of Civil and Religious Liberty." Statues of classical figures line the roof of the colonnade.
