Call NumberX-61898SummaryView looking west on the east side of Yule Creek shows the early quarry development of the mountainside of exposed marble of the Colorado Yule Marble Company, four miles south of Marble (Gunnison County), Colorado, showing buildings, a 50 ton electric crane, terraced slopes and the first of three quarry openings (to the left of the 50 ton crane). The ledge about the base of the crane and to the right of the quarry opening is where the boiler house would be built. The left-right ramp operated cable powered carts to move marble blocks to a less steep grade for transfer to horse (then steam powered tractor) drawn wagons for transport to the mill site in the town of Marble. The cable-powered cart was abandoned in 1910 when the standard gauge electric railway was finished.Physical Description1 photoprint : black-and-white ; 21 x 26 cm (8 x 10 in.)Born-Digital or AnalogAnalogSubjectMarble (Colo.)Yule Quarry (Gunnison County, Colo.)Marble quarrying--Colorado--MarbleMining--Colorado--MarbleCollectionPhotographs - Western HistoryRelated MaterialImage File: ZZR710061898Type of MaterialPhotographic printsBlack & white photographsDigital Version Created FromF.
