Approximately 75 veterans and their families attended the get-together which was arranged by [Captain] David S. Arnold, Special Services Officer at Garmisch. Among those who attended the reunion was [Major General] George P. Hays, Deputy High Commissioner, EUCOM, who was Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division; [Brigadier General] Roy V. Rickard, EUCOM Special Services Chief, who led the 87th [Regiment] ashore at Kiska; [Brigadier General] David L. Ruffner, [Commanding Officer], Nuernberg Military Post, who commanded the Division Artillery; and [Colonel] David M. Fowler, Chief of PjD [?], EUCOM, who commanded the 87th [Infantry]. [Corporal] Jesse R. Smith, [Headquarters and Headquarters Company], 26th Infantry Combat Team, 1st U.S. Infantry Division, leads "Charlie," the mule, to greet General Hays.
