A gardener, holding a shovel, works near an iron railing that is along a retaining wall. A wheelbarrow is next to him. A young boy in overalls watches the man work. The Central City Opera House, renovated and reopened in the 1930s, was described as "the finest temple of the Muse west of the Missouri." Designed by Architect Robert S. Roeschlaub, the oldest opera house in Colorado is constructed of Gilpin County granite, except for the top and sides. Located on Eureka Street, the two story building is fifty-five by one hundred ten feet.Physical Description1 photoprint ; 19 x 24 cm (7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.)Born-Digital or AnalogAnalogSubjectCentral City Opera HouseOpera houses--Colorado--Central CityParks--Colorado--Central CityTheaters--Colorado--Central CityGeographic AreaCentral City (Colo.)CollectionPhotographs - Western HistoryRelated MaterialImage File: ZZR710002863Type of MaterialPhotographic printsBlack & white photographsNotesPhotoprint's corners are worn and frayed and the lower right corner is bent.
