The 87th was expected to sustain a very high rate of [casualties]. When we arrived back in the States after finding no Japanese on Kiska the brass found themselves in an embarrassing situation. 4 [Regiments] in a light Division T.O. only calls for 3. So they shipped the 90th off to the Pacific. The 10th Mtn. Div. lost a lot of good mountain soldiers with this bit of foolishness....In photo maybe others of Rainier Chapter I don't recognize, Walt Hampton, Elmer Campbell, Pete Schwartz."
