Maitland operated the Colorado Buildiers' Supply which during World War II he converted into a major munitions manufacturing plant for the U.S. Army. Built in 1925 in the Tudor Style, the Maitland Estate was designed by two of Colorado's most prominent architects, brothers Merrill and Burnham Hoyt.
