Dear
The President and I are touched at your
thoughtfulness in sending us such lovely remembrances, The fruit cake and the fancy cookies
will be marvelous additions to our afternoon
coffee. But we plan to enjoy the delicious mints
at any moment we can find--they are really such
a delicacy! The gifts were done up in such beautiful fall wrappings that I would not open them
until the President could see how handsomely the
autumn leaf paper and red ribbon blended together
you have been so good to think of us in this way.
1 admire your courage in continuing the
Concert Bureau which you and your husband
started years ago--you know that you have my
best wishes for its continued success. I would
have loved to attend the October 26th program
with you but, as you can imagine, I do not like
to leave the hospital at night but stay with my
husband until he retires. He is doing so well
now--each day brings new encouragement.
With warm thanks for your kindnesses
toward us, and very best regard,
