Exterior view of the old jail in Georgetown, Colorado, built in 1883 for $700 behind the courthouse at Fifth (5th) and Argentine Streets. It was used to house "drunks and brawlers" separately from other criminals at the county jail. The building is a small, square structure of rough stone, with two barred windows on the sunlit side on the left, and a door in the shaded side on the right. A small wood structure with a gable roof, possibly an outhouse, is adjacent to the door. On the left is a wood building, probably the courthouse, and another building is visible on the right. Republican Mountain and the valley leading to Silver Plume are visible in the distance.
