Exterior view of the original Briarhurst, in Manitou Springs, Colorado, looking northwest. This is the residence of the prominent Dr. William Bell, built in 1873. Made of local green Manitou stone, this elegant home has gables, dormers, chimneys, porches, jigsaw work in the gable peaks and delicately carved sandstone lintels. Numerous adults and children are in the foreground, all stylishly dressed; one woman with a parasol is holding a baby, and a boy in the center is ; playing a harmonica. In the background is a rocky, scrub dotted bluff. The hub of Manitou's social life, this structure burned in 1886, and was rebuilt in 1888.
