"We must not desire all to begin by perfection. It matters little how we begin provided we be resolved to go on well and end well". The inscription under the center windows reads "Earth grants joys that are great; but transplant those joys to Heaven, ennoble them through the ennobling love of God, and they grow to a magnitude beyond the comprehension of earth mind." The third inscription reads: "God in His infinite wisdom gives, to the poor, blessings (by way of ; compensation) which the wealthy do not attain - the giving and receiving of heart offerings without price deeds that win crowns and scepters in Heaven." Memorial Church was destroyed in the "great earthquake" of April, 1906.; Memorial Church was completed at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, in 1903 and was dedicated by Jane Stanford to the memory of her late husband, Leland Stanford. The Stanfords founded the university in 1885. Round arches line the arcade in the midground. The tops of carved, wooden pews are in the foreground. Stained-glass windows with rounded arches decorate the interior of the church. Under each scene is a carved inscription. The one on the far left reads
