Summary	A group of large pine trees stands in the midground near Sulphide Flats west of Nederland in Boulder County, Colorado. In 1907, the area was chosen as the site for a new dam to serve as a hydroelectric power source. W. Hollingsworth McCleod, a Boulder capitalist, purchased two ranches in Sulphide Flats, one from brothers W. P. and William O. Hannah and the other from Oran Beech. However, the area is an ancient glacial gravel deposit more than 100 feet thick and was ; soon determined to be an unsuitable site and the plan was relocated to where the present Barker Dam sits east of Nederland. A large rock stands in front of one of the trees. A patch of snow is in the foreground.
