Title	Portrait of a youth and his guardian, Leadville, Colorado
Summary	In this studio portrait of a young man standing with a seated older man in Leadville, Colorado, both men wear coats, vests and hats. Both smoke cigars and have tucked their trouser legs inside their boots. The younger man wears a bandana around his neck and leans on the back of the seated man's chair. A faintly patterned wallpaper is the backdrop for these subjects.
Date	[between 1870 and 1880]
Notes	Handwritten in ink on inside of paper cover: The one on the left represents a wayward youth who is in care of his kind and generous Guardian. Who you will observe is on the right. By paying particular attention to the changes of his countainaince [sic] and the manner in which he sits. You will undoubtedly come to the conclusion, that he is the man with a broken heart, or the last of his race. Poor youth with such a melancholic man.; Tintype has a paper matt with decorative border, with a protective paper cover.; Tintype is rusted and emulsion is flaking off.; Tintype plate has diagonal cut corners.; Title supplied by cataloger.; R7100003350
