Summary	The State Penitentiary in Canon City, Colorado, is a complex of three-story stone structures; the Administration Building is flanked by extensions; all are surrounded by a stone wall with faceted corner towers. A brick smokestack rises from the center. The two-story gatehouse is built into the wall, and has a cottage roof topped by a lookout. Wooden ditch frames are in the foreground, railroad tracks follow, trees front the prison, and low hills are behind it.
