View of a weathered sandstone marker commemorating the battle between Major Thomas T. Thornburgh's troops and Native American Utes at Milk Creek, Rio Blanco County, Colorado. Inscription reads: "In Memory Of Officers, Soldiers And Civilians Of The United States Army Here Killed And Wounded In Battle With The Utes, 29th September To 5th October 1879. Troops Engaged. Co's F And D Cavalry, E Of 3rd Cavalry, D Of 9th Cavalry, Killed. Major T. T. Thornburgh U.S.A. 1st Sergeant John Dolan. Wagoner Amos D. Miller.
