In Marble (Gunnison County), Colorado, on the grounds of the marble mill site, a 56 ton block of marble is on a flatbed railcar, with a frame crate and steps built around it. A sign reads: "Marble Block for Tomb of Unknown Soldier Arlington Cemetery Vermont Marble Company Colorado Quarries." The block is on Denver and Rio Grand Western flatcar 21158. The block was shipped to Vermont Marble Company facilities in Rutland for cutting to final size and finishing work then onto Arlington National Cemetery where it became the middle section of the Tomb. The cap and base were made form separate blocks of Yule marble.
