According to the Costilla County records, in 1863 Eluterio Gallegos was in possession of lands previously owned by Manuel Lucero and Juan Andres Trujillo, original grantees of Charles Beaubien. When Plácida's husband and father died, she managed the affairs of their estates and was considered the matriarch of the family, known by her grandchildren as "mi Baca."
