View of the facade and west elevation of the The Grafton (Aldine Apartments) at 1001-1020 East 17th Avenue in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. The brick building has several two-story semicircular bays, with two-tiered porches located between the bays. The second floor windows have rounded stone arches, and numerous gabled dormers on the mansard style roof. The building was designed by architect James Murdoch for Albert W. Brewster, who is credited with laying out the towns of La Veta, Garland, and Alamosa for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. The building was constructed in 1890 and was reportedly intended as a "family hotel" or "elite boarding house." The building is a contributing structure to the Swallow Hill Historic District and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
