Full-Text	STATE OF COLORADO EXECUTIVE CHAMBERS 136 State Capitol Denver, Colorado 80203-1792 Phone (303) 866-2471 Roy Romer Governor HONORARY PROCLAMATION JUNETEENTH FESTIVITIES DAYS June 15-18, 1989 WHEREAS, on September 22, 1862, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, issued a proclamation declaring all slaves freed January 1, 1863; and WHEREAS, on June 19, 1865, the news reached Galveston, Texas, freeing more slaves; and WHEREAS, the Five Points Business Association Inc., Denver, annually observes Juneteenth in recognition of the Emancipation Proclamation that abolished slavery; and WHEREAS, the Five Points Business Association Inc. is a business community organization striving to promote greater activity in the Five Points community and to stimulate business and professional interest in the community; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Roy Romer, Governor of Colorado, proclaim June 15-18, 1989, as JUNETEENTH FESTIVITIES DAYS in the State of Colorado. GIVEN under my hand and the Executive Seal of the State of Colorado, this seventeenth day of May, 1989 Roy Romer, Governor
