(GOLDEN, Colo., May 5, 2004) Cindy Kirk cuts steel flooring while Don Smith observes in a space in building #881. This is a process area for plutonium and is 40,000 sqft of stainless steel floor over concrete. They are "chasing back" contamination one small section at a time. The building was constructed to withstand a nuclear explosion. It is 250,000 sqft. The process takes some time to do in this highly responsible manner. Rocky Flats Enviornmental Technology Site (cq from karen lutz., on site escort and public affairs person, 303-966-4546) is in ongoing progress of decontamination and post production work of all buildings on site. The workers are here to meet standards set in the Rocky Flats Clean Up Agreement. Only when a building has met stringent clean up standards can it then be demolished. (Photo by: STEVEN R.
