Weekend Special: According to the U.S. Golf Register, the official clearinghouse of holes-in-one, the odds of acing a hole are one in 33,000. But what would the odds be on a 517-yard hole. According to the Golf Register, the longest ace ever registered was by Michael J. Crean of Denver on a 517-yard dogleg on July 4, 2002, at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. A guy in Omaha had the previous long ace of 447 yards, but he became bitter after people questioned whether he could actually have scored a hole in one on such a long hole; he no longer will talk about it. Crean, though, is talking, and he is willing to have his photo taken at The Ranch Country Club, the golf course where he lives. (Crean does not want to be photographed at Green Valley Ranch, where he recorded his record ace).
