On March 8, 2006, Gov. Bill Owens smiles as he signs a bill. Also on the balcony are Rob Witwer (R-Genesee) (l) then (owens) Ben Wright (cq) who owns Mt Democrate, Maury Reiber (cq) who owns Mt Lincoln and Dan Grossman (D-Denver). (l-r) Owens signed the "Fourteeners" Bill from the highest point possible at the state capitol up in the dome which is 180 feet above ground level. HB 1049 will help keep Colorado's highest mountains open to visitors while providing private property owners reasonable protection. This bill was bi-partisan said Gov. Owens and also two of the 14ers that inspired the bill are bi-partisan Mt Lincoln and Mt Democrate. Joining the Governor will be the bill sponsors, Rep. Rob Witwer (R-Genesee) and Sen. Dan Grossman (D-Denver). Protecting access to the Fourteeners was one of the priorities in Owens' State of the State address this year. (LINDA McCONNELL / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) ***
