Tami Bishop, 36, of Denver plays with her two dogs Zander and Hidye in the backyard of her house in south west Denver July 19, 2006. A self proclaimed animal lover and volunteer at the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter, Bishop is challenging the city of Denver on its decision to destroy 38 pit bulls that were conficated from the home of Michael Padilla on May 29, 2006. Animal control officers seized the dogs upon finding them at Padilla's home after responding to reports of a loud ruckus involving dogs at his address. Pit bulls are banned in Denver. Bishop contends that there is no evidence that the animals in question have been involved in any agressive incidents and that they can be relocated to a shelter outside Denver rather than be euthanized. She recently wrote a letter to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper asking him to intervene in the matter. She said she would also like to see the ordinance banning pit bulls to be changed so that it bans all aggressive dogs, but is not breed specific.
