Fourth and fifth grade students pose with the math cards they use in Christine Houseworth's math class at Colfax Elementary in Denver, Colo. Aug. 2, 2006. The school made strong gains in its third-grade math scores on this year's CSAP test. Third-grade math scores rose 21 percentage points with 73 percent scoring at the proficient or advanced level, which is above the state average. That makes Colfax one of only 16 low-income schools statewide that were able to score above the state average.
