Dr. John Altman(cq), an interventional cardiologist, checks in with his patient Harlan Ross(cq), of Arvada, after a cardiovascular procedure at the North Suburban Medical Center in Thorton Wednesday, July 12, 2006. Altman and his team worked to enlarge a part of Ross' artery in his left leg that was constricted making it hard for him to walk. Ross would have to return in two weeks for an operation on his left leg. Altman said his patient could expect to go hiking with his grandson after recovering from the surgeries. North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton was recently recognized as a mentor hospital for its work on acute myocardial infarction (AMI, or heart attack) care. This includes involving emergency first responders in the cardiac care process. EMS teams conduct tests to determine if a heart attack is occurring and relay this information back to the hospital before the patient even arrives, speeding up the process of receive care and involving the entire community.
