Loewenstein was one of seventy one Jewish teenagers from the Denver and Boulder areas that arrived back in the United States at Denver International Airport from Israel after a six week summer program. The teens were in Israel under Colorado's Israel Study Tour before fighting with Lebanon broke out in the North. The teens itinerary was adjusted to move the group south as events escalated they spent the last 11 days of their trip safely in the Negev region of the country. The teens friends and family were out at Denver International Airport to welcome them home. Talia Loewenstein said it was her first time in Israel and said she wasn't scared while over there.
