(06/29/2004, Denver, CO.) Shawndel Sievert, from Colorado Springs, whose child Joey Sievert, 2 and a half, was mauled by a neighbor's dog last year, met with Gov. Bill Owens, Rep. Michael Merrifield, House District 18, and Rep. Debbie Staford, House District 40, to thank Owens for signing House Bill 1279 that the two House Representatives sponsored which imposes stiffer penalties against owners of vicious dogs. The child has undergone past operations but still faces more because of the attack, although her face looks relatively normal. Joey's attention span did not allow her to sit still through the entire press conference and she found amusement in pushing her stroller around. (Photo by Judy Walgren/ ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
