(Denver, Colorado, 1/19/2006) State Sen. Tom Wiens (cq), R-Castle Rock, brought his Senate Bill 78 to the Senate Transportation Committee on Thursday morning. The bill would prohibit private companies from condemning private land for the purpose of building a toll road. Wiens vowed last year to introduce this legislation after a similar bill was vetoed by Gov. Bill Owens. This year's bill has strong support from the bipartisan Transportation Legislation Review Committee, which reviewed eminent domain and private toll roads during the interim. Senator Wiens answers questions by State Sen. Nancy Spence about Bill 78, and he reiterated that basically the same bill passed last year unanimously and that he had no hidden agenda other then to get a bill off the books that would allow a privately owned company or a private citizen to condemn another private citizen's private property.
