Colorado State Treasurer Mark Hillman displays a Purple Heart medal at a press conference Thursday Feb. 2, 2006. The Purple Heart was awarded to Sgt. William G. Mendenhall a member of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army after being killed in action on November 1, 1966. The Purple Heart along with the other medels of honor were turned over as unclaimed property from safe deposit boxes/ one brave soldier who was Killed In Action in the Vietnam War belongs with his family, not in the capitol vault. On Thursday State Treasurer Mark Hillman, who is holding the medal as part of the state's unclaimed property program, will put the award on display at the Capitol in an attempt to reunite the forgotten treasure with it's rightful owner. We'll get the name of the soldier at the presser then reach out to his family. (EVAN SEMON/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) ***********
