(Denver, Colorado, 1/26/2006) Douglass Elementary School is following some new brain research in an effort to reduce the achievement gap between boys and girls (based on CSAP scores). Douglass has been working with an institute in Colorado Springs to employ new teaching techniques based on this brain research. In Anne Gibson's third grade class, students make learning scrolls about the Native American tribes they are studying. Making the scrolls reinforces what they are learning from the book with a hands on approach versus strictly reading the textbooks. (JUDY DEHAAS/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
