KAS084 Workers trim weeds out of a field of onions at Grant Family Farms, the state's largest organic farm, near Wellington on Friday, June 30, 2006. The farm can't use herbicides on the fields, so workers must destroy the weeds before crops are planted, then trim them out by hand after planting. The Grant family owns about 1000 acres and leases 800-1000 more from surrounding farmers each year. They grow a variety of organic vegetables and feeds on round, irrigated fields.
