The hand dug grave of Luis Jimenez is located on his land in a place named "the Valley of the Angels," in Hondo, New Mexico, Thursday June 22, 2006. Jimenez was in the process of creating a 32-foot-tall sculpture called Mustang which was scheduled to be finished in August for the city of Denver and placed outside the Denver International Airport main terminal. Jimenez had been paid $300,000 of a $450,000 commission in 1992 when he began the project. The Lincoln County sheriff's office said Jimenez "suffered a severe trauma" to one of his legs while trying to move a portion of the sculpture here in front of the workshop and was taken to Ruidoso, N.M., to be hospitalized where he was pronounced dead earlier this month. (((EDITORS NOTE: The quote: "suffered a severe trauma" was taken from an article written By Mary Voelz Chandler, Rocky Mountain News on June 15, 2006)))) (BARRY GUTIERREZ/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
