Fire Information Officer Steve Segin (cq) talks with Anna Vijterschout (cq) on Hwy. 160 about ten miles east of Fort Garland on Tuesday June 20,2006. Vijterschout if the manager of the Wagon Wheel subdivision and was the first person to call in the fire on Sunday shortly after noon. Firefighters were setting backburns to try and control the southern edge of the fire. The fire, named the Mato Vega Fire, was started by lightening on Sunday and has grown to over 9,000 acres. As of Tuesday afternoon the wildfire was in a direct line for 70 homes in the Paradise Acres subdivision. High winds continue to fan the fast growing fire.
