Eric Bartels (cq, left in black driving) of Mancos, Co. leads a family on a stagecoach ride through the Morefield Campground at Mesa Verde National Park near Cortez, Co. on Thursday June 29, 2006. On June 29, 1906 Theodore Roosevelt designated Mesa Verde a national park, the first cultural national park in the history of the world. The park will celebrate it's 100th birthday with a weekend of events, dancing, musical entertainment and special tours of some of the cliff dwellings. Stagecoaches served as the earliest form of transportation in the park as the first car didn't enter the park until 1914. Bartels owns the Mancos Valley Stage Line which runs lunch and dinner stagecoach tours out of Mancos. Bartels donated a wagon owned by the Wetherill family to the park for its centennial celebration.
