ELBERT, Colo. — An afternoon thunderstorm Thursday spawned a tornado that severely damaged a house under construction and toppled the top of a pine tree onto another house south of here, officials said. No injuries were immediately reported, Elbert County sheriff’s officials said. Bob Glancy of the National Weather Service said radar indicated circulation in the clouds over the area, which was under a tornado warning, and there were several reports of funnel clouds. “We do believe the damage was caused by a tornado,” Glancy said. Elbert is about 30 miles southeast of Denver. Photo Special to the News/Jeff Struthers
