Louis Cardenas Sixty-two years ago today Dec. 26, 1943 -- Louis V. Cardenas was manning the second gun on the USS Brownson when it was attacked by Japanese warplanes and sunk. More than 100 men died. Cardenas, now 82, of Aurora was one of 208 survivors plucked from the sea. This photo is part of a album his four children gave him on Christmas as a tribute to "the world's best dad" and hero.
