Project Homeless Connect Denver was held for the first time in conjunction with 21 other cities across the U.S. today in an effort to connect the homeless with a wide variety of services in one location. Michael L. Williams (cq center), 42, listens on as volunteer Tony Filipeli (cq, far right) points out where to go next after intake at the event Thursday December 8, 2005. Williams said he started drinking and doing drugs after his father died in 2003 but said, "I'm gradually trying to get my life back together, I'm tired of being homeless". The event was held at the Colorado Convention Center and is modeled after a long-time, successful program in San Francisco. The event was a partnership between Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Denver's Department of Human Services and the Mile High United Way. (MARC PISCOTTY / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Michael L.
