(FT. COLLINS, Colo., October 13, 2004) Wendy Ishii prepares to give Tom a giant hug of appreciation. She brought over a surprise to share with him but would not confide in me what it was in any form. Wendy is co-founder and Artistic Director of the Bas Bleu Theatre and an instructor in acting at Colorado State University. She had just called up and come by with this secret, great news. Tom Sutherland was a hostage in Lebanon for over 2,300 days. Shackledd together tied to a wall with famed hostage Terry Anderson, "he saved my life", Sutherland says. Tom sued and won a financial judgement of $10,000 a day. Because of legislation, his family was included in the lawsuit and benefited with individual awards in addition. He continues to live and respect all the people of Ft. Collins. He is a professor emeritus of animal science and agriculture at Colorado State University. His money is managed for him and he and his wife Jean manage the people managing their money. They also co-authored the book "At Your Own Risk". (Photo by: STEVEN R NICKERSON / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
